The
Welfare Policy Committee examines the current social security system
in Japan and proposes reforms in response to an increasingly aging
society with fewer children. It aims to formulate and implement
a grand design for welfare in the 21st century.
It conducts studies and offers proposals for medical systems including
reviews of medical and nursing services, such as achieving a new
balance of medical cost burdens and benefits, childcare assistance
policies, and review of public pension schemes and corporate pension
reforms. Based on these comprehensive social security reforms, the
committee further engages in research for creating a new, age-free
society.
