The Forum is a group of about 150 representatives from industry, labor union, academia, local government, NPO, etc. that intend to "change the politics and change Japan."
The Forum aims to promote the political reform, makes policy proposal and implements its own activities. It is nonpartisan in nature. The members are all participating voluntarily and over 100 meetings are held every year to discuss the desirable state of politics in Japan and publicize policy proposals.
The Forum meets with younger Parliamentary Members of both ruling party and opposition parties, governors and mayors willing to promote change to discuss how to realize political reform, to support their initiatives and to promote political reform through "cooperation of citizens and politicians."
In July 2003, the Forum, which led the initiatives of political reform from citizen's perspective in the past, went through major structural change. The Forum is now led by co-representatives of Mr. Takeshi Sasaki (Former President of the University of Tokyo), Mr. Yuzaburo Mogi (President & CEO of Kikkoman Corp.), Mr. Masayasu Kitagawa (Professor of Waseda University) and Mr. Masaru Nishio (President of the Tokyo Institute for Municipal Research).
Japan now stands at a historic turning point. The political initiatives of the next few years will decide the shape of the country in fundamental ways. The Forum aims for "Reforms of Japan's basic legal structure," "Structural reforms of politics" and "Structural reforms of people's lives" to realize "The new Japan" that are truly for its people.
