From an “e-Japan Strategy” to an “e-Japanese Strategy”
—Seeking an Affluent Lifestyle with IT—

(August 8, 2002)
Promoting Information Economy and Society Committee

The government’s “e-Japan Strategy” aims to transform Japan into an advanced IT nation by 2005 and thus enable all citizens to lead affluent lives. With respect to this strategy, the Promoting Information Economy and Society Committee calls for urgent attention to be paid to eliminate the digital divide separating the different levels of society from each other and to foster information-literate people (referred to as “e-Japanese” in this proposal) in a society where everyone has access to the Internet society.

From this standpoint, the committee emphasizes the primary importance of creating networks and promoting a national movement for the emergence of “e-Japanese” who have the capacity to participate in an IT society. Having established 2004 as “e-Japanese promotion year,” it calls on the public and private sectors to collaborate in launching a national movement for promoting “e-Japanese” policies.
