Objectives for 2012
(January 1, 2012)

We designated last year as "The First Year of Productivity Reform" and started the new movement to reorganize Japan. We encountered the Great East Japan Earthquake soon after, but the behavior of Japanese people that calmly helped each other was regarded highly by the world and the strength of Japanese industry that was backed up by both of labor and management was also taken note. Japan could transform itself into a country that can benefit from the demand and vitality of Asia by reconstructing and applying such strength. This is the time to gather all the strength of Japan including political power, improve total factor productivity through innovation and systemic reform and convert "crisis" into "opportunity."

As the drive of the Japanese economy, we will promote the innovation in productivity through transparent and open activities. We will disseminate the stories of productivity improvement that can resonate with people.

  1. Formulate comprehensive strategy and establish political infrastructure that copes with global trends

We will formulate mid- to long-term comprehensive strategy of Japan in cooperation with various sectors and establish political infrastructure that could implement the strategy. We will propose a grand design to create "Japan in the world" ten years from now. Industry, labor, administration and politics will be connected to prepare political structure. We will realize "common number" that will become the backbone of people's life.

  2. Strengthen competitiveness and create jobs through promotion of management innovation

We will realize the improvement of global competitive edges and creation of jobs through managerial innovation of industry and government. We will promote globalization of economy taking cue from TPP. We will create the high value added service industry in the areas of medical care, nursing care and child care, etc. through public service reform. The innovation in SMEs and agriculture will be promoted to create new employment opportunities.

  3. Development and utilization of human resources that realize productivity innovation

We will realize productivity innovation by improving the capability of individuals and also utilizing people in a more sophisticated ways. We will develop global human capital by cooperating with other countries. The business training in educational institutions and work-life balance will increase the employment of female, youth and senior workers and create a society that can harness the potential of human resources. We will support the maintenance and promotion of workers' mental as well as physical health.
