2009 Attitude Survey of the New Recruits
(April 22, 2009)

This JPC survey has been conducted since 1990, to see what kind of trends can be observed in the attitude of the new recruits of different companies. Below is the highlight of the 2009 survey.

  1. The survey asked which of "working in a team sharing result" or "work in a set-up that individual effort is directly reflected in the result" the respondents prefer. The ratio of those who preferred the former was 83.5%, the highest ever.

The ratio kept on increasing for 5 years in a row, reaching all-time high of 55.2%. Those who said that "they joined the company of first choice" also recorded the highest figure at 76.9%. Regarding change of job, those who answered that "they would rather not change job" reached 34.6%, the highest ratio ever.

Regarding how they intend to work, those who replied that "they will follow direction from bosses even when that direction is against their conscience" reached above 40% (40.6%,) the highest ratio since the question was included. 11.7% said that they will not follow the direction and 47.7% said they don't know. Also, those who replied that "aggressive action that is against past standard or practice is not a problem as long as it is not illegal" reached the highest level at 22.2%.
