About the Council for Promotion of Work-Life Balance
The birthrate in Japan declined faster than expected and the country's population also started to decline. Left alone, this trend will bring about serious implication to the Japanese economy. The trend of low birth rate must be dealt with urgently.
As one of the way to cope with the challenge, central and local governments are trying various programs to establish society in which people can bear and bring up children without excessive burden. However, it is critical that the private sector start to deal with this issue because companies benefit from vital workforce and maintenance and improvement of productivity.
The Council for Promotion of Work-Life Balance was established to change "how we work" and "how we live" to achieve "balanced life" as the private sector initiative for the next generation. The Council's movement is based on the idea of "Work-Life Balance," which is to review how we work and how we bring up children under long-term perspective and to achieve harmony between work and life. The Council will implement practical solutions that change work and life to bring them more in line with the needs of the times.
